Had a great stay over the August bank holiday weekend. I booked the cheapest room, but it was very comfortable and clean and the people who ran the hostel were very helpful

John and "Granddad" are one of the nicest Hostelowners I came across. With a warm welcome after an exhausting hike my spirits were already lifted. The vibe is laid back and just super chill. They are both hustling why I find it so disgusting being told people steal on a regular. If it is coffee tea or cutlery, mugs ( and even things being taken out the STAFF cupboards!!) they are proving it is just disgusting behaviour. They have to keep replacing things until they might have to decide to not provide anything anymore because they can't keep spending money over and over again for replacing stolen items. After all it is a small independent Hostel and they are trying to make a living out of it. People who steal just ruin it for everyone else and i hope karma gets them all.
But continuing with more positive things. They also provide great recommendations about the surroundings and nice chats whenever you come across them. So glad I picked this Hostel for my 2 night stay in Tintagel🧡

We've just had a nights stay at Dolphins (to visit Tintagel and the Castle) and we would definitely stay here again. We found it to be very clean and comfortable both our room and the communal areas. Kitchen is very clean and well equipped and John and 'Granddad' are very friendly and helpful, full of useful tips on the area - they really do seem to understand just what you need for an inexpensive but comfortable and enjoyable stay.

The dolphin backpacker hostel is exactly what it says on the tin, 4 to a room, shower, bathroom facilities, kitchen, fridge. Close to local amenities and close to a few mysterious, magical shops that would interest those who like tarot, crystals, dragons, and anything related to merlin and King Arthur. Its a small village, a few grocery shops, lovely pubs and nice people. The staff at the hostel are lovely, really friendly and helpful. There is WiFi available should you need it but the phone signal while there is non existent in the building. I'm not really a phone person myself so that didn't bother me and you can text anyway. You are able to make tea and have use of a kitchen and can cook also. There is a small place to sit outside which is nice. Overall this is a great place for backpackers and as stated does what it says on the tin.

As 40 somethings, we wondered if we were a bit long in the tooth to appreciate this place. But we were greeted very warmly by owner John and the legendary Grandad. And we were relieved that this isn't a party house. It's a really chilled place at a very reasonable price. If you expect the Hilton, then pay Hilton prices. If you want somewhere, unfussy, cheap, warm, dry, safe and friendly to crash in the heart of Tintagel, then this is your place.

John is very friendly and nice! His kind greeting made me feel warm and reassured when I was dropped here. Everything is perfect and easy, I really have a great time in here beyond my expectation.

Very nice place even for being in a private en-suite room.
John, our host, very helpful. Everything easy and smooth.
We arrived for 1 night and decided to stay another one... hoping the mad hatter to show up (see the image).

I rarely review where I stay.
Excellent central location, close to St. Nectan's Glen, Tintagel Castle, shops and pubs around central Tintagel.
Cleaned to a very high standard. Toilets and shower areas did not have any kind of mould, there were no clusters of cobwebs, insects or spiders present. There are two outdoor showers, if you're brave enough.
Stayed in the Barn which was very clean, rugs and floor clean, no dust bunnies or fluff. I have allergies and I would have been sneezing had there been any kind of hidden dust. Bunk beds are not crammed in and the room is spacious and very cool on hot days. Width of bunk beds is very good. Owner and his girlfriend made up my bed prior to arrival, sheets smelt clean and freshly laundered.
Stairs and communal areas are spotless.
Site is managed well.
Local pub, the Tintagel Arms, just outside, is great to sit and chill and listen to the locals put the world to rights.
Cool vibe, chilled owner
Resident pup/owner Reggie is adorable and if you're lucky, you'll also get to meet local Huskies Max, Millie and Brutus that frequent the pub
Probably one of the cleanest hostels I've ever visited and I've stayed in many up and down the country.
Very much enjoyed my stay and would certainly return.

I haven't stayed at this hostel yet, but as someone who will be running a hostel in a few months in Scotland, I have asked for their advice on cleaning tips and overall running of a bunkhouse and they have given us such detailed information. Their hostel sounds and from the photos look like it is really clean and we are just so happy that they have replied to our email with such useful suggestions. Next time I go to Cornwall I shall definitely be staying with them!

Can I give 6 stars?
I have stayed at other hotels and airbnbs I have given 5 stars. This one blows them out of the water. It has just about everything you could ever look for.
I stayed in the private double with my boyfriend, and the room was good and even had a spacious closet. Maybe a bit small, but more than worth the price. Even had a sink in the room!
What makes this place even better is the people. John and Leah (and Reggie) were wonderfully accommodating. Always willing to talk about Cornwall, give advice on where to go, and even affordablly shuttle you to and from major destinations.
They truly want to help the customers. They offered a discount for the shuttle since they were driving is and someone who was going further anyways. Even though they had a lot of washing to do, John did our laundry. He even refused a tip for his excellent service.
Would love to come back just for the hostel.
